THE DISTRICT OF JABLANICA

The District of Jablanica is situated in the very south-east part of Serbia. It covers 2,769 km² with the population of 255.011. The central city of the District is Leskovac, the biggest town in south Serbia, with the population of 156.252. It is situated on 225m in the centre of the vast valley of Leskovac, surrounded by Babička gora and Seličevica, Radan mountain, Kukavica and Čemernik. The District itself includes the Municipalities of: Bojnik, Vlasotince, Lebane, Leskovac, Medvedja, Crna Trava.

Economy
Most of the branches of economy are present in the District. The most developed branches are: metal extraction, wood processing, chemical industry, food and wine production, agriculture, tourism and construction, and they give the most important contribution to the local economy.
Leskovac is also famous for its international fairs for textile industry, textile industry equipment, agricultural industry and products, furniture and interior design objects, and construction and construction materials.
There are many favourable conditions for the development of agriculture, food and wine production in the south of Serbia, and in particular production of organic food. The region produces vegetables, wheat, apples, pears, plums and other fruits which are sold at the domestic and foreign markets. There is also a vast network of poultry farms. Pigs and cows are bred in private cooperative cattle farms and there are processing devices and other equipment, from cold storage houses and distillatory devices to fruits and vegetables processing factories, grain elevators, etc.

Tourism
Leskovac can be proud of its numerous cultural and historical monuments, including the Library opened 130 years ago, the National Museum which is one of the richest in the country, churches, monasteries and houses built more than five centuries ago.
It is also well known for its manifestation “Roštiljijada” – an attractive economic and tourist happening called "World festival of grill and wine". During this manifestation with a high reputation, Leskovac is flooded with thousands of guests from all around the world, while in the centre of the town, in the open, "day and night" the famous Leskovac grill specialties are made. 
Sijarinska Banja spa is 50 km from Leskovac, 520 meter above the sea level, on the slopes of mountain Goljak and coast of the Jablanica river. It is a unique natural phenomenon, and it represents one of the richest spas in Europe, with 18 natural healing springs and big geysers.

Transport
The main roads and railroads (E-75) which represent the connection between eastern and western Europe, and the Mediterranean Sea pass through the south of Serbia. They ensure the efficient and inexpensive trade, as well as the speed of information flow.

 

THE DISTRICT OF PČINJA


The District of Pčinja is situated in the very south of Serbia. Its main communication nod is the highway and railroad Belgrade – Niš –Skopje (E-75), leading to Thessaloniki. The District includes the following Municipalities: Bosilegrad, Bujanovac, Vladičin Han, Vranje, Preševo, Surdulica, Trgovište. There are 243.529 inhabitants living in the District. The most important and the largest centre of the Pčinja District is the city of Vranje. It is situated close to the south Serbian border in the centre of the District in the valley of the South Morava river. The Municipality is situated on the area 860 km2 with 87.288 people populating 105 settlements.

Economy
The fertile soil, forests, mineral water, and good infrastructure network represent the basis for the economic development of south Serbia and the District of Pčinja. Both the Districts of Leskovac and Vranje have many favourable conditions for the development of agriculture and food, wine and tobacco industry. The region is rich in natural and healthy water sources and forests.
Vranje is also famous for traditional crafts, small craft family workshops and recently also private entrepreneurship especially thanks to home factories and inventive spirit of people from this area.
The most developed economy branches in the region are industry, mining, tobacco industry and agriculture, textile industry, and wood processing and furniture industry.

Tourism
Every year in Vranje, numerous traditional cultural manifestations are held, from which the most important is "Bora’s week" named by the writer Borisav Stanković, who has kept alive the customs and tradition of old Vranje and south Serbia in his literary works. There are several resorts in the region which offer good times for potential tourists, especially Vranjska Banja spa and Bujanovačka Banja spa. The temperature of water in some of them reaches 100oC. This is a curing place for people suffering from bone-muscular system, rheumatism, stomach diseases, lungs diseases, movement diseases, traumas and broken bones, gynecological and neurogical diseases, skin diseases, chronic diseases, etc.
Оn the Vlasina plateu, 20 km far from Surdulica, at 1210 m above the sea level, surrounded by mountains mildly sloping towards the lake coast, there is Vlasina lake. The climate on Vlasina lake provides favourable conditions and attracts more and more domestic and foreign tourists, sportsmen and pupils both during the winter and summer periods.
