WOMEN’S RESEARCH CENTRE FOR EDUCATION AND COMMUNICATIONWomеn’s Research Centre for Education and Communication is an independent, non-profit, non-political and non-governmental organization, established in December 1997 in Niš. The organization gathers humanely oriented individuals, who contribute to the realization of organization objectives through research, educational and social work, and their own scientific, professional and personal authority. The work in the organization is based on democratic and feministic principles of equality, voluntariness, solidarity, confidence, tolerance, consideration of diversity and open dialogue. Objectives: articulation of interests, attitudes and specific characteristics of women, affirmation of women’s competences, promoting of human rights and improvement of social and legal position for women, informing the public about the international standards of protection of women`s human rights; changing patriachal and conservative models of woman - man relations and promotion idea of gender equality and and equal opportunities for women and men.
Activities: organizing research, professional and scientific consultations, public discussion and other types of conventions, education through organizing panels, presentations, seminars, courses and other forms of work, publishing and informative activities, giving initiatives and lobbying for changes in legislation, creation of law models, etc.
Most important projects: „Feminist school“ (1998/1999); „Informing about women`s human rights programme“ (1999); Research „Abortion - legal, medical, ethical approach“ (1999/2000); „Help and support programme for overcoming conflict relations in family“(1999/2000); „Gender studies – an experimental course“(2001); Campaign against human trafficking (2001); Campaign „Legal means against family violence“ (2002); „Consultancy house for women with breast cancer“ (2002); Research „ Women`s position on the labor market in the region of Niš“(2003); Research „Family violence crime - legal practice in the Republic of Serbia“ (2003/2004); „Monitoring implementation of legal protection against family violence“ (2005/2006); „Family legal protection against family violence” (2006/2007), Legal clinic for protection of woman’s rights (2007), etc.
